NEW DELHI — Robin Liu, the Chief Executive Officer of OnePlus India, has resigned from his position and will step down on March 31, 2026. The company confirmed the leadership change on March 24, stating that Liu is currently serving his notice period and is expected to return to China after completing his tenure in India.
Reasons Behind the Resignation
Although the company’s official statement used standard corporate language, internal reports suggest that Liu’s exit comes amid internal restructuring and growing market pressures.
One of the key developments involves organizational changes within parent company OPPO. Reports indicate that OPPO is consolidating operations of its sub-brands, including OnePlus and Realme, as part of a broader strategic shift.
As part of this restructuring, Liu was reportedly asked to report to Sky Li, the CEO of Realme, who was recently elevated to oversee operations across multiple OPPO-affiliated sub-brands. Previously, Liu and Li were considered to hold equivalent positions within their respective organizations.
Market performance may have also played a role in the leadership change. According to industry data, OnePlus experienced a sharp 38.8% year-on-year decline in smartphone shipments in India in 2025, reducing its market share to around 2.4%.
In response to rising component costs and tighter margins, the company is also reportedly shifting back toward a more online-focused sales strategy, reversing some of its earlier expansion into offline retail channels.

In an official statement, OnePlus thanked Liu for his contributions to the company’s growth in India.
“We thank Robin for his contributions to OnePlus India. He moves on to pursue his personal passions, and we wish him the very best for his future endeavours. OnePlus India operations continue with local strategy and business continuity ensured,” the company said.
Liu himself has not released a detailed public statement regarding his resignation. However, reports suggest he plans to focus on personal interests and a new project after returning to China.
Notably, only two months ago, Liu had publicly dismissed rumors suggesting a potential shutdown of the OnePlus brand in India, calling them “false.”

OnePlus has not yet announced a successor to lead its India operations. However, the company has reassured customers that software updates, after-sales support, and warranty services will continue without disruption across the country.
Looking ahead, industry analysts expect OnePlus to increase its focus on mid-range and upper mid-range smartphones in India, while sister brand OPPO may concentrate more heavily on the ultra-premium segment. The leadership change comes at a critical time for the brand as it attempts to regain momentum in one of the world’s most competitive smartphone markets.
