Mussoorie — A 27-year-old software engineer from Delhi was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a homestay on the Mussoorie-Dhanolti road, prompting a detailed police investigation and forensic examination.
Victim Identified as Delhi-Based IT Professional
The deceased, identified as P. Radha Gayatri, was a resident of Kidwai Nagar East in Delhi and worked for a technology company in Gurugram. Her family originally hails from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
Couple Arrived at Homestay Late at Night
According to the police, Gayatri had traveled to Uttarakhand with her husband, Soumya Sricharan, an IT professional based in Pune, to celebrate his birthday. The couple, who were married on November 8, 2025, had reportedly arrived in Rishikesh on June 13 before proceeding to Mussoorie. They checked into Kiana Homestay in Tipridhar on the Mussoorie-Dhanolti road late on the night of June 14 and were allotted a room named “Bliss.”
Husband Describes Discovery of Wife’s Body
As per the husband’s statement to investigators, the couple consumed alcohol after arriving at the property and went to sleep around 3:30 a.m. He later woke up to find his wife lying unresponsive on the floor of the room. She was reportedly unclothed, lying in a pool of urine, with blood visible around her nose and mouth.
Police and Medical Teams Respond
The homestay staff alerted authorities at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Monday. A police team from Mussoorie Police Station, along with a 108 ambulance service, reached the scene. Medical personnel present at the location declared Gayatri dead.
Bloodstains and Liquor Bottles Found in Room
During the preliminary investigation, police recovered two empty liquor bottles and food items from the room. Investigators also found bloodstains on the bedsheet, leading authorities to treat the case with caution until the exact cause of death is determined.
Forensic Examination and Videographed Autopsy Ordered
A forensic team conducted a detailed examination of the room and collected physical evidence for analysis. The body was subsequently transported to Coronation Hospital in Dehradun for post-mortem examination.
Given the unusual circumstances surrounding the death, police requested that the autopsy be conducted by a panel of doctors and that the entire procedure be videographed to ensure transparency and accuracy.
Family Requests Investigation
According to local police, the victim’s father, P. Sudhakar, has submitted a formal application to the police seeking a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to his daughter’s death. Family members also noted that Gayatri had a medical history involving low blood pressure and had been undergoing treatment for the condition.
Investigation Continues
Mussoorie Police Station in-charge Devender Singh Chauhan confirmed that a formal case has been registered and that several individuals staying at the homestay have been questioned as part of the investigation.
“We have not found bruises or external injuries on the body. The post-mortem examination will help determine whether there were any internal injuries, particularly as the deceased was found bleeding from the nose,” Chauhan said.
Police officials stated that the exact cause of death remains unknown and will only be determined after the post-mortem and forensic reports are received. The investigation remains ongoing.
