Rajkot, Gujarat — Two young men, including a minor, were killed and another critically injured after a speeding Hyundai Verna crashed into the wall of a farmhouse in Gujarat’s Rajkot district on Saturday. Police said the occupants were allegedly filming social media reels while driving at dangerously high speeds.
Accident Details
The accident occurred on Dhoraji Road in Jetpur, near Balkrishna Farm House in Rajkot district. According to police, the car was traveling at an estimated speed of 120–150 kmph when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Authorities said the driver was recording a video for Instagram at the time of the crash. Moments before the accident, a clip uploaded to his Instagram story reportedly showed the vehicle’s speedometer approaching 120 kmph.
Investigators said a video recorded from the back seat showed the driver steering with one hand while holding a mobile phone in the other.
Victims
Police identified the victims as:
- Avadh Tiwari (20): The driver of the vehicle who died on the spot.
- Devraj Gosai (16): A passenger who succumbed to injuries during treatment at a hospital.
- Akshay Pravinbhai Vaghela (22): Another passenger who survived but remains in critical condition.
Police Investigation
According to Rajkot Rural SP Vijaysinh Gurjar, the occupants were filming reels during high-speed driving when the driver lost control.
Police are also investigating the ownership and registration status of the vehicle. Preliminary findings suggest that the car involved in the accident was unregistered at the time of the crash.
Driver’s Criminal Background
Police records indicate that the deceased driver, Avadh Tiwari, had a prior criminal history. Authorities said he had been facing cases related to extortion and attempt to murder.
He was also recently released from jail after being detained under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA), a law used to detain individuals involved in anti-social activities.
“Tiwari had a criminal history and was facing cases of extortion and attempt to murder,” said Rajkot Rural SP Vijaysinh Gurjar.
Rising Concern Over Social Media Stunts
The tragic crash has once again highlighted the dangers of filming social media content while driving. Police have warned that performing dangerous stunts or recording videos at high speeds can lead to fatal consequences.
Authorities said further investigation is underway, including verification of the vehicle’s registration and a review of the videos recorded before the crash.
